Project Overview

At Lalpir Power Generation, our team carried out critical electrical testing and commissioning services across high-voltage and internal generation systems to ensure system reliability and grid compliance. The project focused on testing 220kV Capacitive Voltage Transformers (CVTs), diagnostic evaluation of motors, and protection relay validation, all vital for the safe and efficient operation of the power plant.

Testing Scope

The testing campaign included advanced diagnostic procedures aligned with IEC and NTDC standards, comprising:

• Complete testing of 220kV CVTs, including insulation resistance, capacitance, Tan Delta, and voltage ratio verification

• High-voltage withstand tests to assess dielectric strength under surge and overvoltage conditions

• Motor testing for insulation health, winding resistance, rotor condition, and phase balance

• Protective relay testing for overcurrent, earth fault, differential, and distance protection schemes

Key Testing Procedures

Omicron VOTANO 100 was used for voltage ratio and phase angle verification of CVTs, while CPC 100 and CP TD1 facilitated insulation diagnostics and Tan Delta analysis. Motor diagnostics included IR, PI, and rotor condition assessments to evaluate operational readiness. Relay testing was conducted using Omicron CMC 356 to simulate fault conditions and confirm protection logic, tripping times, and coordination compliance with NTDC protection settings.

Project Documentation and Impact

All test activities were recorded using Omicron PTM software, ensuring traceable data logging and automated report generation. Test reports were reviewed with stakeholders to meet regulatory, operational, and maintenance standards. This project significantly reinforced grid compliance, operational safety, and system stability at Lalpir Power Station, supporting its mission as a reliable energy provider in Pakistan.
