500KV New Lahore
500KV New Lahore
Project Overview
At the 500kV New Lahore Grid Station, AYK was entrusted with carrying out extensive high-voltage testing services for various critical 500kV equipment. These included Auto Transformers (ATR), Current Transformers (CTs), Capacitor Voltage Transformers (CVTs), busbar systems, circuit breakers, disconnectors, surge arrestors, and the 500kV switchyard earthing system. The testing ensured insulation integrity, operational readiness, and safety compliance before commissioning.
Testing Scope
The project involved comprehensive testing adhering to IEC standards and NTDC guidelines, including:
-
High-voltage testing of 500kV Auto Transformers, CTs, and CVTs
-
Dielectric strength verification of busbar systems and circuit breakers
-
Mechanical and electrical tests on disconnectors and surge arrestors
-
Earthing system integrity tests using advanced diagnostic equipment from Omicron and Interesting
Key Testing Procedures
The dielectric strength of busbars was tested using the DC Hi-Pot PGT-80 by Intereng, verifying performance under high stress. Auto Transformers underwent insulation resistance, polarization index, winding resistance, turns ratio, and Sweep Frequency Response Analysis (SFRA) tests using Omicron CPC 100 and FRANEO 800. CTs were tested for ratio accuracy, polarity, and knee point using Omicron CT Analyzer. CVTs were evaluated for capacitance, tan delta, and ratio accuracy with VOTANO 100. Circuit breakers were assessed for timing, contact resistance, coil current, and mechanical travel using CIBANO 500. SF6 gas analysis for Gas-Insulated Breakers was performed using XPDM 100 and SF6 Purity Pro. Disconnector operation and surge arrestor insulation resistance were verified along with earthing mesh resistance tests to confirm safety compliance.
Project Documentation and Impact
All test data was meticulously recorded using Omicron PTM software, providing traceable and comprehensive reports for client review. This project reinforced AYK’s commitment to technical excellence, contributing to a reliable and sustainable national power transmission network, supporting Pakistan’s energy infrastructure with trusted expertise and international standards compliance.
